Edinburgh 900 Exhibition

The Edinburgh 900 exhibition will showcase many historic themes about the City of Edinburgh with 11 local organisations representing themes ranging from City of David to City of Ideas and Celebration.

The exhibition will run from 15 June to 31 August celebrating Edinburgh’s 900th anniversary*.

Theme : City of David

15 – 30 June Living Memory Association

Come and see images from The Living Memory Association’s picture archive celebrating Edinburgh’s working lives alongside material from the City of Edinburgh Council looking at civic governance through the Edinburgh 900 theme ‘City of David’. It was under the authority of King David I that Edinburgh was granted its burgh status in 1124.

9 – 15 July Edinburgh Leisure

Explore Edinburgh’s rich sporting legacy through their fascinating Edinburgh 900 displays.

Theme: City of Faith

16 – 23 July Edinburgh Interfaith Association

In this exciting audio-visual exhibition, visitors will be taken on a journey through 900 years of faith and belief in Edinburgh. The main feature of the exhibition is story based and highlights some of the most engaging and inspiring stories from our communities over the 900-year period. In addition to this, the exhibition celebrates the ways in which our communities continue to enrich and contribute to the city and invites visitors to add their own stories.

Theme : City of Conflict and Diversity

1 – 7 August Roots for Routes(Multicultural Family Base) and Edinburgh Chinese Arts

This exhibition lets you explore stunning traditional Chinese costumes, try them on, and learn their fascinating stories. See the vibrant Chinese dance props used in elegant performances. Also get a calligraphy piece with your name on it as a keepsake – a one-of-a-kind keepsake! Explore intangible cultural heritage crafts, each piece tells a story that has been passed down for centuries.

24 – 31 August Volunteer Edinburgh and Edinburgh Magic Festival Young Carers exhibition

Edinburgh Young Carers charity, Edinburgh International Magic  Festival, and illusion expert Professor Richard Wiseman have created an innovative, exhibition of mind-bending photographs taken in locations around the city themed around Edinburgh’s magical heritage.
