St James Quarter Sessions – Pop-up Vinyl Lounge

Join us for the St James Quarter Sessions pop-up Vinyl Lounge!

Open for the Opening and Closing weekends at St James Quarter Sessions, the Vinyl Lounge will be located upstairs at Everyman Cinema Edinburgh on the Friday 16th August and then based in our Guest Services Lounge on Level 1.

Beat Generation Records will operate the Vinyl Lounge for the opening weekend and Umbrella Vinyl will operate the closing weekend.

The Vinyl Lounge will be stocked with a wide range of second-hand and new vinyl including: Jazz, Blues, Funk, Soul, Latin, Afrobeat, Highlife, Ska, Reggae, Dub, World, Experimental, Soundtracks, Bollywood and Library Music.

Beat Generation Records

La Beat Soul Club consists of three avid vinyl collectors (Brian, Gavin and Ross) who have run Soul nights at the Argyle Bar and Leith Arches over the last seven years. Beat Generation Records is a new venture for Ross and marks a collaboration, with La Beat at St James Quarter Sessions.

During Beat Generation Records pop-up, guests can also enjoy DJ sets on old school vinyl decks!

Umbrella Vinyl

Umbrella Vinyl is a bricks-and-mortar second-hand record shop and music label. Based in Tollcross in central Edinburgh, it was founded in 2022 by three passionate record collectors. The owners, Laura, Josh and Nick, pride themselves on it being an accessible space, welcoming all to share a love of music and records.

Their name and logo hints at the three founders’ Hong Kong past whilst also nodding to their broad musical tastes and inclusive perspectives Umbrella Vinyl cares about the planet and are committed to minimising their environmental impact. They stock a wide range of second hand and new vinyl including: Jazz, Blues, Funk, Soul, Latin, Afrobeat, Highlife, Ska, Reggae, Dub, World, Experimental, Soundtracks, Bollywood and Library Music!
